These wonderful papers are made by a highly-skilled, young papermaker based in Oguni village in the beautiful prefecture of Niigata. They are 100% kozo, handmade using traditional methods. Shikishi refers to the small, square format and was traditionally used for calligraphy and small drawings. When dyed with fermented green persimmon juice (kakishibu), they become water resistent. These papers will darken a bit naturally with age. The lovely format of this paper lends itself well to working in a series.
