Made using the white, inner bark of the kozo plant and cooked with soda ash. This paper is surface-dyed using fermented green persimmon juice called kakishibu. Because the dye is brushed onto the sheets by hand, there is some variation from sheet to sheet, and from the front of the sheet to the back. As well as being a colourant, kakishibu makes the paper water resistant: this sheet could be used for making stencils. Excellent for ink drawing and for use with opaque colours such as gouache, colour pencil. Would also look very leather-like for book covers.
