We are deeply saddened to share the news that Mr. Kawakatsu, owner of one of the last remaining Katazome-shi production studios, has recently passed away. Tragically, without a successor, the Wazome Kogei has closed, resulting in the discontinuation of our entire Katazome-shi selection along with a small number of gift items.

This news has been a tremendous shock to us all. Mr. Kawakatsu was neither elderly nor in poor health, making his untimely passing all the more difficult to process. His loss leaves a profound void, both within his community and in the preservation of this handcrafted art form, which is now one step closer to extinction.
